The Life in the UK Test app
Free practice test. Modern app. Web today, iOS soon.
Britizen is the modern way to practise the Life in the UK Test — built in 2026, mapped to the current 3rd-edition handbook, designed for the phone you actually have. 272 verified questions, chapter drills, full review mode, persistent stats. No signup. No ads. Fully free.
What's in the web app today
- 24-question timed practice — same format as the real Life in the UK Test (24 questions, 45 minutes, 18/24 pass mark)
- Chapter-by-chapter drill mode — drill the chapter you keep failing, untimed, 10 questions at a time
- Full review of every answer — see what you got wrong, the correct answer, and the source chapter
- Persistent stats — track your attempts, best score, average, day streak, and per-chapter mastery
- Mastery achievements — unlock badges for first pass, perfect score, chapter mastery, and consecutive practice days
- Smart resume — accidentally close the tab? Your progress is saved for 24 hours
- Keyboard shortcuts — power-user speed for repeat practice
- Retry-only-wrong mode — after each test, drill just the questions you got wrong
What's coming in the iOS app
- Offline mode — full practice tests with no internet connection (perfect for the bus, the test-centre waiting room, or anywhere phone signal is patchy)
- Push reminders — daily nudges to keep your practice streak going
- iCloud sync — your stats follow you across devices
- Quick flashcards — chapter-by-chapter facts to review in 5-minute slots
- Apple Watch complication — quick "today's question" on your wrist (we'll see how this lands)
Why we built this
The existing Life in the UK Test apps are mostly from 2014-2017. The official Home Office app has a 3.3-star rating on the App Store with under 2,000 reviews — it's widely regarded as dated and unhelpful. Some indie apps are better, but they all share the same problem: the UX hasn't been updated in years and they're full of ads.
Britizen is the modern alternative — built in 2026, designed to be used quickly and well, paying for itself through optional premium features later rather than ad density. The free tier (which is everything currently on the site) stays free forever.
Is it really free?
Yes. The 272-question practice bank, chapter drill mode, stats, achievements, and review mode are all free with no signup. We don't sell your data, we don't collect emails unless you join the iOS waitlist voluntarily, and we don't run ads on the practice test pages.
We may add premium features later (advanced analytics, study plans, AI-powered weak-area drills) but the core test prep will always be free. Our position: passing the Life in the UK Test is a step toward your citizenship — we shouldn't be the thing that makes it harder to afford.
